Italy provides various visa options which are valid for (1) residing, (2) working, and (3) investing. Let\u2019s look at three popular types of visas below.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8a7ed0e elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"8a7ed0e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">1. Obtaining the Elective Residence Visa:<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a7b7b80 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a7b7b80\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Non-EU citizens are able to obtain the Elective Residence Visa if they can demonstrate sufficient passive income from foreign sources as this visa doesn\u2019t allow you to work or start a business in Italy. The visa is valid for one year only, but can be renewed indefinitely. The main requirement is any passive income that remains constant, even after the relocation, and is not less than \u20ac32,000 yearly.<\/p><p><strong class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-26 c2-27 c2-3 c2-46 c2-u c2-34 c2-47\">These are the types of income that qualify:\u00a0<\/strong>Financial income, Property or Rental Income, Dividends, and Pensions.<\/p><p>If you don\u2019t meet the \u20ac32,000 monetary requirement, you can still qualify for the Elective Residence visa if you\u00a0<a class=\"x-el x-el-a c2-26 c2-27 c2-4a c2-l c2-m c2-4b c2-o c2-4c c2-3 c2-2a c2-2b c2-2c c2-2d\" href=\"https:\/\/spadaforarealty.com\/property-finding\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"\">buy a residential property<\/a>\u00a0and make it your primary residence. With the Elective Residence Visa the pathway to Italian citizenship is smooth. After 5 years, applicants can apply for a long-term resident\u2019s permit which lasts 5 years, and then can apply for citizenship if they want. Unlike the United States, being an Italian citizen or visa-holder does not automatically require you to pay taxes in Italy, but more on that later.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-235ccfc elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"235ccfc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">2. For any digital nomads out there who want to relocate to this beautiful country, the Self-Employment Visa or Freelancer Visa, applies to those who are not employed by a company and want to earn money by freelancing. You\u2019ll need to prove you have been a freelancer in your country for at least two years in order to qualify, and the Self-Employment Visa is renewable every two years. It requires a minimum annual gross income of just \u20ac11,500.\u00a0<\/p><\/div><p><strong class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-26 c2-27 c2-3 c2-46 c2-u c2-34 c2-47\">How to qualify for the Self-Employment Visa:<\/strong>\u00a0(1) Apply for a \u201cNulla Osta\u201d in Italian, which is an authorization to perform your self-employed work, (2) Apply for the Self-Employment Visa at the embassy or consulate in your home country, and (3) Obtain an Italian residence permit or \u201cPermesso di Sogiorno\u201d in Italian upon arrival which allows you to live and work legally in the country.<\/p><p>Keep in mind you can only apply for an Italian Self-Employment Visa, or any other\u00a0Italian work visa\u00a0for that matter, during a short window of time every year and you will also be subject to yearly quotas. Just like for U.S. work visas.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1145d72 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"1145d72\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">3. There is no requirement for the business to be active prior to the application or to have Italian partners; you can be the sole shareholder.\u00a0Italy\u2019s Investor Visa is valid for 2 years, after which you may renew it for an additional 3 years. For those holding property for five years or more, Italy rewards with zero capital gains tax upon selling. It&#039;s essential, however, that the property title is under an individual&#039;s name. If listed under a company, exemptions change unless it&#039;s a sole proprietorship, termed &quot;Partita IVA&quot; in Italy. For properties held less than five years, a 26% capital gains tax is applicable. Yet, there&#039;s a silver lining for primary residences: selling before five years and buying another property within a year, even in another EU country, maintains the tax exemption. Additionally, benefits from the \u201cBonus Prima Casa\u201d incentive remain intact.
